Hayley Winterberg - Executive Director

Hayley Winterberg is our Executive Director for Arizona Peer and Family Career Academy. In this role she ensures that we are elevating the peer and family support workforce, offering consulting services to support organizational growth to providers, and supporting the peer and family support network. She is passionate about advancing the utilization of peer and family support throughout our health care system to make a positive impact. 

Hayley has a long-standing passion for collaborating in Arizona. In 2008, Hayley cofounded MY LIFE (Magellan Youth Leaders Inspiring Future Empowerment) which started with 10 members and at the first event attracted over 3,000 participants. Since then, she has traveled all over the United States to speak, organize events, and inspire similar groups supporting behavioral health and substance abuse.

Prior to joining the AzPFCA, Hayley was the System Transformation Manager for Magellan/Molina Complete Care of Arizona focused on transforming the systems with lived experience perspectives. Hayley was the Development and Young Adult Center Manager for a local peer run organization. Additionally, Hayley has more than 10 years’ experience as a private consultant for social service organizations in the areas of project management, strategic planning, recruiting, policy development, marketing, training, and public speaking.

Hayley is the recipient of numerous awards including the 2010, “M Power” award from Mental Health America for being the top youth advocate for mental health in the 50 states; the 2015, Young Adult Leadership award by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA); the 2016, Servant Leader Champion award from The Faithful City; and the 2019 Elsie Eyer CUP (Commitment to Under-served Populations) Award from the Arizona Public Health Association. In 2021, she received the Disruptive Innovator award from the National Association of Peer Supporters.

Hayley earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration and a Master’s in Leadership from Grand Canyon University, and a Bachelor’s in Human Services with a concentration in management from University of Phoenix. She lives in Buckeye, Arizona with her husband, and three sons (the J Boys). She has a passion and love for feathered friends, including her office companion cockatoo Miss Baby.

Brissa Rubio - Learning and Development Manager

Brissa Rubio is our Learning and Development Manager for Arizona Peer and Family Career Academy. In this role she ensures that we are enhancing the professional growth of the peer and family support workforce, developing and offering training opportunities. It is no surprise that her passions in life include wellness, learning and living wholeheartedly.

Brissa is a certified Health Coach and received her certification from Dr Sears Wellness Institute. She followed her passion for wellness to become a Wellness Coordinator to support workplace wellness with a certification from the Chapman Institute. Brissa has received various wellness awards for both her contributions as a wellness coordinator and for the success of the workplace wellness plans, she created.

Brissa has over 20 years of experience in developing and facilitating training. Brissa is a certified trainer in Mental Health First Aid for both the Adult and Youth curriculum for the National Council of Mental Wellbeing. Brissa has over 15 years of experience as a national trainer for the Crisis Prevention Institute and received the Meritorious Trainer award for her contributions as a Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Trainer. Brissa is also a Red Cross instructor for a variety of courses that include CPR and Safety-First Aid for both Pediatrics and adults. Brissa is a certified trainer for other nationally recognized curriculums.

Brissa earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Arizona. She lives in Tucson, Arizona with her husband and beloved pets.

Destany Hollaway - Program Coordinator

Destany Hollaway is the Program Coordinator for Arizona Peer and Family Career Academy. She joined our team as a contractor in April of 2022 and now serves in a part time role. Prior to coming to PFCA, Destany served as many roles within our medical system including medical assistant, consulting, and others. As program coordinator, she ensures that PFCA’s operations, logistics, marketing and student experience is exceptional. Destany is often the magician behind the scenes ensuring our team is successful in our programs, trainings and operations.

Destany is a family member to several individuals with mental health and substance use experiences which has given her a special heart and compassion to make a difference for others. She is a dedicated mom to 3 boys and 1 girl.

George Nolan - Trainer

George Nolan, a valued member of our team, brings a unique blend of dedication and expertise to his role as a trainer. With a background as a former Marine and a current pursuit of a degree in behavioral health, George's journey embodies resilience and a commitment to personal growth.

Having triumphed over his own struggles with substance use and embraced a path of recovery, George discovered a profound sense of purpose in assisting others. His innovative programs, conceived during his tenure with the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation, and Reentry at the Second Chance Center, continue to make a meaningful impact today.

During his time behind bars, George seized the opportunity to make a positive difference by providing over 2,000 hours of direct service to fellow inmates. Equipped with his Recovery Support Specialist credential from Arizona Complete Health, he spearheaded a transformative Wellness Recovery Group, empowering individuals with essential coping mechanisms and preparing them for successful reintegration into society.

Driven by the mantra "Be change," George embodies a steadfast commitment to personal and collective growth. His unwavering dedication serves as an inspiration, motivating those around him to embrace change and strive for excellence each day.

Randy Benes- Trainer

Randy Benes is a Trainer for the Peer and Family Career Academy. In this role, he is responsible for facilitating engaging trainings to build workforce competencies. His lived experiences drive his passion to make a positive impact in the recovery community. Randy comes with over 10 years’ experience in the peer support community, most recently as a Recovery Support Specialist Manager at a crisis care facility. Randy is a credentialed Peer Support Specialist and is certified through AZ Complete Health to train and credential others in the field. He has additional certifications in Recovery Wellness, Drug and Alcohol Education, Motivational Enhancement, and Criminal and Addictive Thinking.

Randy was honored in 2023 with the Central Arizona Peer Support Uplifting Resiliency and the Change Our Community Needs award for from AZ Peer and Family Career Academy. He was also awarded the 2023 Recognition of Appreciation award from Arizona Women’s Recovery Center and the 2023 Caught You Caring award from CHS. Randy is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Behavioral Health Science at Grand Canyon University. He lives in Phoenix, Arizona with his Fiancé and daughter.
